Crew 2 Crew move to Crichiebank

Crichiebank Business Centre

Crew 2 Crew has moved to the quaint and tranquil surroundings of Inverurie's Crichiebank Business Centre.

A grand former holiday home surrounded by an acre of land, Crichiebank is not only a stunning and inspiring location to work but also is environmentally friendly, using renewable energy from a wood chip system to heat the building.

The Crew 2 Crew team has happily settled in to its new home and look forward to the years to come.

A visit to the United Nations in New York

The visit to New York was an incredibly interesting and immensely valuable three days for Crew 2 Crew.

We attended a United Nations Seminar which was headed by Robert Gilpin (British Consulate-General), and Fiona Macleod, (vice consul), who gave an instructive and detailed description of the functions of the UN and how each autonomous agency works co-operatively with each other.

Our learnings from this invaluable seminar will help us tailor our products and services to the particular needs of UN agencies. We are very grateful to Robert Gilpin's and Fiona Macleod's assistance and guidance in realising the many opportunities awaiting Crew 2 Crew.

Crew 2 Crew hits Washington DC

Our trip to the beautiful capital of the United States took us to their British Embassy headquarters.

There we had discussions about our services with British Embassy official Yvonne Dale and Terry Sheer MBE who helped provide a number of important contacts and explained how to get to the root of the U.S government market. Their help and support is greatly appreciated.

Trade Mission trip to Hong Kong

Our trip to Hong Kong was a highly rewarding one. The city, like Shanghai, is one of the world\'s most important shipping hubs and is home to the biggest commercial aviation airport.

This leg of the trade mission let us explore the potential of Chinese business prospects and partnerships and made us realise the fruitfulness of becoming integrated with companies in the Asian Pacific Rim.

We are thankful to Claire Ip, British Consulate, who was very helpful and showed us around the British embassy in Hong Kong for consideration of future Crew 2 Crew presentations. SDI Manager, Fiona Donnelly, then talked us through the Hong Kong market and gave us great contacts to enable the best possible resources for our communications portal.

Chinese connections - Shanghai Trade Mission

Crew 2 Crew was pleased to be among the prestigious and diverse range of Scottish businesses travelling to China on a Scottish trade mission, run by the Scottish Council for Development and Industry.

SDI Trade Missions gives outward-looking businesses the chance to explore new and exciting overseas markets. Shanghai has the largest shipping and fishing port in the world; so this is a vital market for us to investigate and establish mutually beneficial partnerships.

The day began with an insightful introduction into Chinese business and culture by Michael McCourt, from the the Chinese British Broadcasting Corporation (CBBC), and Neil Floyd, from the British Embassy UK Trade and Investments. After this the Secretary of State for Scotland, Jim Murphy addressed the mission reception, and the following conference enabled us to establish contact with interested Chinese companies and organisations.

Chinese media took an interest in Crew 2 Crew during the trip, with China Ship News reporter David Wu interviewing Crew 2 Crew's Graham Duncan on our upcoming plans and planned Chinese associations.

We had a number of productive networking events, dinners and meetings in Shanghai, increasing Crew 2 Crew's awareness of local market conditions and how to integrate Crew 2 Crew into the Chinese market.

Crew 2 Crew builds partnership with Mission to Seafarers

Before our departure from China, we had the opportunity to visit the famous Mariners' Club run by The Mission to Seafarers in Kowlon, Hong Kong. The charity ensures the wellbeing of seafarers who often face problems with isolation as a result of separation from loved ones. The club is open to any registered seafarer to enjoy the facilities and relax.

There we met Reverend Peter Ellis who gave us a tour of the excellent facilities of the club. After which we enjoyed a productive discussion with the charity concerning changing technologies and communications and how this will affect seafarers' lives for the better.

It was inspiring to meet everyone at the charity which shares the same ethos and interests as our own. We look forward to working with the charity in the future and improving communication and services for mariners.

Going Gaelic - back to our Scottish roots

On a recent visit to the Isle of Lewis, we took the opportunity to visit the island\'s prestigious language school, the Murray International Language Centre in Stornoway.

Director of Murray International Language Centre, Gordon Murray, kindly agreed to meet with us and we discussed the possibility of translating content on Crew 2 Crew into the traditional Scottish language, Gaelic. This would help test our innovative translation software and make the Crew 2 Crew portal especially useful to Gaelic speaking crew members who are too often neglected.

Crew 2 Crew will eventually be translated into 38 different languages, providing communications to crew members of every culture.

As well as working closely with the language institution, we also hope to collaborate with Lewis Castle College that runs maritime courses. The ability to live and work under strenuous, isolated conditions is a trait shared with islanders and the maritime community, which is why there are many islanders in crew industries.

Crew 2 Crew would like to say a big thank you to Gordon Murray and the Murray International Language College for their hospitality and we to hope to have a productive partnership in the future.

Crew 2 Crew celebrates Homecoming Scotland 2009

Homecoming Scotland Logo

Crew 2 Crew is delighted to announce its participation with Homecoming Scotland, the year-long celebration of Scottish history and culture.

Being a home-grown Scottish company based in the North East, the conjunction of Crew 2 Crew's website launch with Homecoming Scotland ties in with celebrating both past and present Scottish innovation.

Scotland has long been linked with the maritime industry, with a deep rooted history going back to fourteenth century ship building, oil and gas, fishing and harbor history. Crew 2 Crew's combination of these industries with new technology will enable the maritime community to connect and gain an intercultural, international perspective on an industry previously fraught with communication difficulties.

Alex Salmond, Scotland's First Minister, and Crew 2 Crew's Graham Duncan have been in discussions for the upcoming launch of the communication and networking website. Plans are now in place for the launch to kick off onboard the Discovery Ship in Dundee, an award-winning tourist attraction.

Crew 2 Crew is planned to launch in late September and is set to make waves in future Scottish and worldwide maritime communications.

SDI Trade Mission to Egypt

SDI Trade Mission to Egypt

Crew 2 Crew is very pleased to be building a partnership with the Arab Academy of Maritime Transport. Graham Duncan met with the Dean and other personnel at the Academy during a recent Trade Mission. After a tour of the very advanced facilities on offer to those who see a future in the Maritime Industry, Graham was able to discuss the role Crew 2 Crew can play in that future.

International partnership and co-operation is more important than ever for the industry, and we are pleased the Academy can share in the vision of Crew 2 Crew for a more integrated global maritime community.
